Kemper Corporation, and our brands, affiliates, and subsidiaries (“Kemper", “we”, “us”, or “our”) respects the privacy of its users. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard your personal information when you use our products or services, visit our websites, or use our mobile device applications that link or reference this Policy. Personal information means all nonpublic information related to an identified individual.  Personal information does not include anonymized data or de-identified data.

If you are a customer of Kemper’s insurance companies, you may also receive privacy statements for your insurance products, for example, as attachments to your policy(ies) or policy renewals. These statements may contain additional information regarding your relationship with us and our privacy practices. Those privacy statements should be read together with this Policy. Our businesses are not all subject to the same laws and may have different practices. This Policy does not apply to any companies unaffiliated with Kemper or to the practices of our licensees or business partners. These may include, for example, agents, vendors or advertisers.
 

Your Requests and Submissions on this Website

When you are on this website, you may take certain types of action, such as filing a claim, emailing us, logging into your account, using tools or calculators, finding agents/agencies or asking a question about a particular insurance issue. Kemper Corporation owns insurance companies but is not itself in the business of insurance. Your request and information will be shared so that the responsible Kemper businesses or their agents may take appropriate action. 

Categories of Information Collected by Our Companies

Our companies collect and maintain a wide range of nonpublic personal information about prospective, current and former insureds and others. Here are some examples of the types of information that our insurance businesses may collect:

Identifiers and Contact Information: We may collect personal identifiers and contact information, such as your name, company name, home and business address, your email address, telephone numbers, or social media addresses. 

Government-Issued Identifiers: We may collect your government issued identifiers, such as your social security number and driver’s license number.

Financial Information: This is information needed throughout the transaction and purchase process. This is information you provide us through your agent, by phone, and/or online. We may also obtain it through directories or other consumer reporting agencies. It includes your payment information, including your method of payment (i.e., credit/debit card number or bank account number), other payment or billing information and payment history, your chosen insurance package, including coverage, limits, and your premium.

Account and policy information: We may collect account details, including personal information about you, another insured on your policy, or a beneficiary when applying for a policy or requesting service. If you register for an online account with us, we may also collect your user ID, and password used to login. 

Insurance and Claims Information: We may collect information about your insurance claims, including materials you may submit as part of your claims. We may also collect information about your driving record, homeownership, vehicle information, and other driver information. 

Demographic Information: We may collect information about the cars you own, your marital status, your family members, and about the home you own.

Message Contents, Audio or Similar Information: If you contact us either directly or through one of our agents or customer service representatives, we may collect information such as your texts, messages, emails, or the content of webforms you submit to us.  When you leave a phone message for us or speak with one our agents or customer service representatives, we may also collect the content of your message to, or conversation with us, and/or a recording.  

Consumer Report Information: This information is obtained through consumer reporting agencies as permitted by law. It may include your driving record, claims history with other insurers, and a credit score. This information will NOT be shared with Kemper employees who are not involved with your transaction processes, claims services, or customer service inquiries.

Geolocation Data: We may collect geolocation data automatically when you use our websites, social media, or mobile apps. In addition, if you are enrolled in our voluntary Kemper Auto telematics program and use the Kemper Co-Pilot App or if you are enrolled in the Kemper Auto Commercial telematics program and use the Telematics-Kemper Commercial App, we will collect information about your driving style and habits, such as your location, speed, acceleration, braking, cornering, device ID, device model and carrier information. For both the Kemper Auto and Kemper Auto Commercial telematics programs, we will only collect this information with your consent. Policyholder participation in the Kemper Auto telematics program is voluntary. Depending on a variety of factors, policyholder participation in the Kemper Auto Commercial telematics program may be voluntary or mandatory. If your employer is enrolled in the Kemper Auto Commercial telematics program, you will be required to use the Telematics-Kemper Commercial App while performing covered services for your employer, and the information collected will be used by Underwriting to confirm vehicle use is consistent with policy attributes.

Other: We may collect information about the type of browser you use. We may also look at what part of our sites you visit. We may also collect information about the links you select on our sites that take you to third party websites.

How Information About You Is Collected

Our companies are engaged in a variety of insurance businesses and may collect information about you a variety of different ways. Here are some examples. Check the Privacy Polices of our businesses for additional information.

We may collect information directly from you. For example, we may collect information when you make an insurance request, decide to make a purchase, or submit an email or form to us.

We may collect information from you passively. We may collect information from you automatically when you use our services or open our emails. For example, we may use tracking tools like cookies, iframe, scripts, pixels tags and web beacons. This information is for system administration and other internal business purposes and provides us statistical data about how you use our services. We use this information to deliver better and more customized services.
The information we collect automatically may include:

  • Browser type, device information, and operating system
  • Your domain name and internet service provider
  • Information about how you use our services
  • Information about the content you view and the features you access when you use our services.

We use these technologies for the following reasons: 

  • To track new visitors to our websites.
  •  To recognize past customers.
  • To present more personalized content, to improve your website experience, optimize your shopping experience, and provide site and service enhancements.
  • To serve customized advertising (whether on our website or others you visit).
  • So we can better understand our audience, our customers, our website visitors, and their respective interests.

We also use these technologies to provide you with advertising – on our websites and other third party sites that you visit – that is as relevant and useful as possible. These ads may be based on information you submit on our websites or third party sites, or your activities or behaviors on our websites or on third party sites. The information gathered may be used to serve you with advertisements on our websites or on third party websites.

To the extent these online tracking technologies are deemed to be a “sale” / “sharing” (which includes targeted advertising, as defined under the applicable laws) under applicable state laws, you can opt-out of these online tracking technologies by submitting a request by clicking on “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Data” which is linked at the footer of Kemper’s website.

Please note, some features of our websites may not be available to you as a result.

We may get information from third parties and other publicly available websites/databases. For example, our businesses may get information about you from a credit reporting agency and other authorized providers of personal information.

How Your Personal Information Is Used

Our companies may use your personal information in a variety of different ways. Here are some examples:

To process your requests. For example, our businesses will use your information to generate a rate quote, process a claim or provide you information regarding an agency or agent

As described at or before your information was collected.

For marketing purposes. For example, as permitted, our businesses may use your information to tell you about themselves or about products or services they think you will like.

Registration for Events, Publications, Surveys and Questionnaires. We may occasionally ask for your name, company name, business mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, your social media address, and other relevant personal information, in order to contact you regarding promotions, to send you our publications, register you for events, or to complete online surveys and opinion polls about your activities, attitudes and interests.

To customize and/or improve your experience with us, including customer or technical support. For example, to tailor your website visit to fit your interests.

For our other legitimate business purposes. For example, we may combine information that we get about you from third parties with information we already have. We may develop analytics models, including for example, actuarial, underwriting, claims, and loss control models to improve our products and services or for other purposes permitted by applicable law. We may also develop anonymized, aggregated or de-identified data by making reasonable efforts to remove personal information. The resulting anonymized, aggregated or de-identified data sets will then be used to perform analytics to, for example, understand more about our customers, improve our products and services, and for other commercial purposes as permitted by applicable law. 

As otherwise permitted by law. For example, we may use your personal information to meet our contractual obligations and respond to law enforcement or government requests under applicable law, court order, or governmental regulations. 

How We Share Information

With vendors and others who provide services for us. For example, our insurance businesses may share your information with insurance agents or insurance brokers, claim representatives, mechanics, or repair shops. We may also share your information with companies that maintain databases used by the insurance industry.

With a successor to all or part of our business. For example, if part or all of our Kemper companies or businesses are sold, we may sell customer lists or other personal information as an asset in the transaction.

With medical professionals or institutions to verify coverage or conduct operations or service audits.

For legal reasons or to prevent or investigate fraud. Our businesses will disclose information to compliance assessors or state motor vehicle departments. These include insurance regulators and auditors. We may also disclose information in response to a subpoena, search warrant or court order, or in response to a government request. We will also share information if we believe it is necessary to cooperate with law enforcement. We may also share information to prevent or investigate fraud. 

As part of our insurance business. We may share information as necessary or required by law, to provide insurance services, including claims and policyholder services. For example, our businesses may share information with insurance rating organizations. We may also share information with consumer reporting agencies, including credit reporting agencies, guaranty funds, and compliance assessors.

With our affiliates as permitted by law. For example, we may share your personal information with other Kemper Corporation companies for marketing or other purposes as allowed by applicable law. 

We may share information for other valid business purposes as permitted by applicable law.

Your Choices

Providing information. You can choose not to provide us with some or all requested information. If you do not provide it, though, we may not be able to fulfill your request.

Accessing, reviewing, and changing your personal information. Registered users can review and change certain personal information (e.g., email, password, payment information, contact information) at any time by accessing their account on the Mobile Apps or Web Based Apps.

Opting-out of receiving, seeing and/or tracking-based ads. If you want to opt out of having your online behavior tracked for advertising purposes by participating companies, visit youradchoices.com/control, optout.networkadvertising.org, and adssettings.google.com.

Please note that we do not control how third parties manage their opt-out processes. 

How We Secure Information

We take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect personal information. These steps vary depending on the type of information we have. These steps include computer equipment and system safeguards and secured files and buildings.

The Internet is public and we cannot promise that your information will remain secure. We thus encourage you to use caution when disclosing information online. Do not share your passwords with other people and select passwords that are secure.

We retain your information for as long as necessary to carry out the purposes described here. We will also store information for as long as legally required. Our information storage practices are determined by many factors and may not be affected by the termination of any customer relationship.

Google reCAPTCHA

“Google reCAPTCHA” (hereinafter “reCAPTCHA”) is implemented on our websites. This service is provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google”).

Based on our legitimate interest in the prevention of spam and abuse, we also use the invisible reCAPTCHA feature of Google on our website. This function is primarily used to distinguish whether an input is made by a natural person or by automated processing involving abusive activity or spam. reCHAPTA analyzes and collects various information of the respective visitor, such as IP address, cookies, mouse movements of the user, length of stay on the website, etc. By using reCAPTCHA, data may be transferred to Google and other third parties in the process of determining whether the visitor is a human being or an automated program.

International Visitors

Our sites are operated in the United States. Our businesses only sell insurance in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that information you provide to us will be sent to the United States. By using our sites and giving us your information, you agree to such transfer. You also understand that the U.S. may not provide the same level of privacy protections as the laws of your country.

Links

Our sites may have links to third-party sites. If you click on one of those links, you will be taken to websites we do not control. This Policy does not apply to the privacy or information practices of those sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any other websites that may be linked to the Kemper website.

Children

We do not authorize persons less than 16 years of age to use our websites, mobile device apps or other online services. Our websites, mobile device apps or other online services are not marketed directly to children under the age of 16. We thus do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 16 through our websites, mobile device apps or other online services. If you are a parent of a child under 16, and you believe that we have received information directly from a minor through our websites, mobile device apps or other online services, please contact us.

In the event that we become aware that we have collected personal information directly from a person under 16 years of age through our websites, mobile device apps or other online services, we will delete such information from our database.

Changes to this Policy

This Policy is subject to change at our discretion. Changes to this Policy will be posted here and effective as of the date at the top of this Policy. You should refer to the date at the top of this Policy to see when it was last updated. Your continued use of our websites, applications, or other services after any update to this Policy will constitute your acceptance of the changes.
